Yavanna is one of the Valar in J. R. R. Tolkien's Silmarillion. She loved all things growing, so is depicted here surrounded by trees, ripe wheat and holding flowers. Her dress is decorated with a pair of Art Nouveau trees and her jewelry is made of vines.

This is lovely! Wonderful shading and a very captivating background composition. Her hands came out very well, too. The only comments I would make (and they're very small) are that her head looks slightly large and I can't tell where her eyes are focusing (maybe you were going for that, though.) Wasn't sure if you noticed so thought I would mention it. But otherwise, very, very pretty.

Thank you!! Yes, her head is a bit too large for her body, and that is mostly the fault of the body since her head is the size I wanted... if you get what I mean... anyway, it is what it is: a composition study for a painting in a series. And her eyes are kind of dreamy, so it's ok that they are not focused. Although I thought about having her looking at the flowers, I didn't want to hide her eyes too much... that's my excuse and I'm sticking with it

It's not a bad excuse at all! I thought that might have been what you were going for.

Sweetness!

(Is your family from Russia, by any chance? Something about your Yavanna's face looks like Russian art - I think it's the shape and proportion of eyes and mouth.)

Thank you! No, I am not Russian, but the drawing is influenced by traditional iconic art of the Orthodox churches (I am not Orthodox, I just like the art and thought its tone fit the Valar).

Glad I wasn't just imagining the Russian influence. ;)

Thank you! It was a labor of love for Tolkien's Middle-earth :) I call this series "Middle-heaven"
