  1. How long have you been on DeviantArt? 3 years on Nov. 8th

  2. What does your username mean? "Tinidril" is the name of a character in a book (Perelandra) who is not referred to by her name until the last chapter. It was the most obscure literary reference I could think of. Usually that means that I'm the first person to try using it to sign up for things, but it didn't work at DA... someone had the temerity to use "Tinidril" before I signed up! Hence, the "the-" stuck on the front ;) Plus, I am the owner of www.tinidril.com!

  3. Describe yourself in three words. Artist, musician, poet

  4. Are you left or right handed? Right

  5. What was your first deviation? A pencil sketch of Patrick Troughton Patrick Troughton pencil sketch by The-Tinidril

  6. What is your favourite type of art to create? Portraiture

  7. If you could instantly master a different art style, what would it be? Caricature

  8. What was your first favourite? A tutorial on how to transform an ordinary pencil drawing into a toned-paper drawing using digital method: Pencil Tutorial by Girl-on-the-Moon

  9. What type of art do you tend to favourite the most? Really exceptional work from people or groups I watch. I seldom "browse" by topic.

  10. Who is your all-time favourite deviant artist? TheElvishDevil , she was my first dA friend!

  11. If you could meet anyone on DeviantArt in person, who would it be? jetdog-art ... though not in a creepy-stalker-kinda-way

  12. How has a fellow deviant impacted your life? A very dear dA friend, flamingodancer123 , was the first to gift me a subscription to dA.

  13. What are your preferred tools to create art? There is no substitute for good old fashioned pencils, brushes, pens, markers... traditional is messy, but honest. I do love the option to work digitally, but still like it to at least look traditional ;)

  14. What is the most inspirational place for you to create art? a quiet place, usually right here in front of the computer... yeah, even with traditional media!

  15. What is your favourite DeviantArt memory? The first comment! Community interaction is core to the success of dA

Here is the first installment of a series of Features, "Fandom in Traditional Art". I'm starting with my current favorite fandom: Doctor Who! I thought I'd begin with a selection of the very first Doctor, played by William Hartnell.

The First Doctor - William Hartnell by The-Art-of-Ravenwolf   This first example is extraordinary in that it is an exceptional color rendition, aside from a wonderful choice of pose and expression, right down to the monocle (which he rarely used, but looks great!), it is rare to find a color portrait as his shows were filmed in black-and-white. I love the texture of the paper that shows through the fine colored-pencil work. All of Monica's Doctor portraits are consistently wonderful, be sure to check them out @The-Art-of-Ravenwolf!

Doctor Who/ William Hartnell by DukeDexter  An illustration produced for the fanzine "Matrix", Richard Farrell's portrait shows the Doctor from the serial "The Tenth Planet". Beautifully rendered in stark black ink on hot-pressed board. He also does awesome caricatures of all sorts of people, including some of the Doctors! Take a tour of @DukeDexter gallery for some guaranteed smiles :D

Dr Who- William Hartnell by LeightonNoyes  Although this particular photo source is used often, Leighton renders it with accurate, but unfussy skill. I really love the loose, immediate quality of his lines and ink washes. He is also an excellent illustrator! See more of @LeightonNoyes Doctor art.

I have been a deviantART member for 1 year now! I joined not really knowing whether much would come of it, I didn't know anyone personally with an account, but I was looking for an easy way to establish a gallery. I began by uploading a few pieces. What struck me was that sometimes I would receive an immediate response by someone choosing to put my art into something called "favorites", or someone would give me a "llama". I didn't fully understand what these were yet, but it gave me a feeling of being welcomed and included. One of the first things I did was try out a new digital "natural medium" painting program, uploading my results. Peter Davidson (Final) as 5th Doctor (Doctor Who) by The-Tinidril The response, even without yet joining any Groups was almost instantaneous! I was astounded at the responsiveness of the community. I then began to join groups that shared my interests. Soon I was gaining real friends, inspiration, encouragement, and giving or receiving advice in a vibrant, friendly atmosphere.

Groups inspired ideas and exchanges which I have have cherished over the last year. Groups like :icondailysketchchallenge: Father Time - #DSC by The-Tinidril Steed and Peel #DSC by The-Tinidril Edna Mode - DSC by The-Tinidril
:iconda-speedpaint: Oregon High Desert - Sdj by The-Tinidril Old Man Willow - #DA-Speedpaint by The-Tinidril Lemon Tree - SDJ by The-Tinidril

And all those exchanges have led to real friendships with people who have inspired me. People like TheElvishDevil flamingodancer123 and KTHuettich

Thank you, deviantART, for being the best artist community ever created! Happy 14th Birthday :D

And my Etsy shop: FineArtFandom where you will find several of my block prints for sale.
I will be away from the computer for two weeks, so all groups have had deviations turned off while I'm away. Group journals will still come through and I will see them when I get back. See you then! :D

I found that I do, in fact, have internet access here at the RV park!! So I will still be somewhat active :D

I have moved into a motor home with limited internet access. This means that I have difficulty viewing all the lovely art that comes to me in my WATCHmessages :( Therefore I have temporarily disabled new messages in all the groups I'm in until I have a more stable connection. I will still see notices and journals of all those groups and individuals I watch.

New post in my art blog: Virtual Painting: Peter Davidson Refining
I recently tried out a painting program called ArtRage, similar to Corel Painter, but smaller and much less expensive. Having never tried Corel Painter I can only guess that it has a lot more "stuff" in it to use... however ArtRage costs a fraction of the cost, and it delivers in a big way!
