The Illustration Friday website is no more.
You can still find illustrationfriday.com but it is no longer the site that once hosted a weekly prompt and sometimes offered awards. The new domain is http://www.illustrationage.com . It's still a great resource for budding illustrators, though. Because of this change, I will be placing the group into stasis as a read-only gallery of collected illustrations. No new illustrations will be added... UNLESS there is someone who would like to curate the collection by finding good illustrations in Deviant art and add them. If you'd like to be a curator, please send me a Note.
Fandom in Traditional Art: First Doctor
Here is the first installment of a series of Features, "Fandom in Traditional Art". I'm starting with my current favorite fandom: Doctor Who! I thought I'd begin with a selection of the very first Doctor, played by William Hartnell.
This first example is extraordinary in that it is an exceptional color rendition, aside from a wonderful choice of pose and expression, right down to the monocle (which he rarely used, but looks great!), it is rare to find a color portrait as his shows were filmed in black-and-white. I love the texture of the paper that shows through the fine colored-pencil work. All of Monica's Doctor portraits are consistent

I have been a deviantART member for 1 year now! I joined not really knowing whether much would come of it, I didn't know anyone personally with an account, but I was looking for an easy way to establish a gallery. I began by uploading a few pieces. What struck me was that sometimes I would receive an immediate response by someone choosing to put my art into something called "favorites", or someone would give me a "llama". I didn't fully understand what these were yet, but it gave me a feeling of being welcomed and included.
